I fell in love with this sculpture as soon as I saw it! It conveys so much more than a man who is dying. This sculpture depicts a man who has suppressed the feelings of fear and gone to war. What is seen here is a warrior who is still trying to persevere and press on in while facing death. What is it about the spirit of a man that drives his intrinsic ability to fight in the harshness of battle? As our text says, the softness of flesh is compared against the solid, hardness of the shield and helmet. The flesh is weak, but the mind is strong; just as the shield. One's body was not created to be thrashed the way war does. There is a time for battle just as there is a time for the warriors who enter to die. It may not look as this warrior does, but there are warriors who have died for our country in a similar experience. We live free (for the most part) because of what warriors have sacrificed. Say Thank You!!!
