Blog #7

This is a bronze gilded statue of Marcus Aurelius. I chose this piece to blog about due to the command presence that I see on the face of the statue. I have been fascinated by the leadership of Marcus Aerelius as a general of Rome for several years. Commanding a Roman army would make you sit a little taller on your horse... and this is what is scene in the sculpture. One day I hope to accomplish what Marcus Aerelius did as a leader. Seeing this sculpture reminded me of my respect and admiration for Marcus Aurelius.

I agree with you Jon. The commanding presence written of Marcus' face is captivating. I find it interesting that the same propagandistic tactics are still used today in our current leaders. With this current election, we've had a chance to see many different politicians faces. Most of them seem to show images of Clinton with hand up in the hair with a powerful gesture; McCain standing straight faced and firm; and Obama with his face revealing calm and collected dignity. It seems obvious to me that the same old "propaganda" is used today because it simply works. It's been working for thousands of years, and Marcus Aurelius has shown us. Great blog!
