This is a painted relief of Akhenaten and his family. I really liked this piece because of the loving picture of family that is seen. In the early portraits of Egypt the concept of a loving family is not even hinted at. The concept of family to me is of the utmost importance! I believe many of the social issues found in the modern world are present due to the many broken families seen today. Many youth are not raised with an understanding of responsibility and the importance of parental guidance. Fathers often have a concept of parenting that says the more beer I drink the more of a man I am and that showing affection to my children equates with weakness. This is wrongful thinking and when combined with a daughter she will often look for love in the wrong places and find herself in even more emotional pain than before. Son's of these fathers are told to grow up and be men but never shown how to do that! All this to say that family is vitally important and must be considered and thought of as such! For me, this piece showing King Akenaten and his Queen captures the essence of my thoughts listed above.Saturday, October 4, 2008
