Blog #4

The name of this piece is Menkaure and a Queen. Menkaure was the heir to the thrown from King Khafre. What I liked the most in the piece is both husband and wife are walking together. In the piece it can be seen that both the king and queen are taking steps with each other. They are indeed one. Looking at it from this perspective, both are equal. I believe that men and women are made equal in the image of God. They both may have different strengths and roles, but intrinsically they are equal. I think a small portion of this is portrayed in this sculpture of Menkaure and a queen.

I like this piece too. The other piece that I really like is Akhenaten and His Family which is the one that shows Nefertiti and their three daughters. The text even says that some scholars think that Nefertiti acted as co-ruler with Akhenaten. I was disappointed when I read how Tutankhamun and Rameses II returned things to usual.

I like how the King and Queen are joined as one, and stepping forward in succession. I would like to know more about how marriage was viewed at the time.
